Makes Life Miserable

A while ago, I decided that as someone who owns a food business, I should probably learn a bit more about what we’re supposed to be eating.
I read books, listened to podcasts and attempted to educate myself on nutrition as best I could. By the end of it, I was more confused than when I started.
For every doctor, food scientist or nutritionist saying carbs, fats or meat were unhealthy, there was another equally qualified person saying the opposite.
There also seems to be this need to count all the things we eat. Calories, carbs, macros, kilojoules, protein. It's exhausting.
After 6 months of trying to make sense of it all, I came away with 2 things:
The first is that if you love food and want to make your life a bit more miserable, start counting all your macros and calories. It’s guaranteed to take the joy out of eating.
The second is to eat more of what makes you feel good afterwards. This is pretty much how Laura and I eat now.
If something is delicious and we feel good after eating it, we eat it more often. If it doesn’t, we eat it less often. This is why we make Darl Bars. There are plenty of snacks with higher protein, lower carbs and lower sugar, but we’ve never tried to make ours into a nutritional maths competition.
We just try to make them with good ingredients that taste delicious and makes people feel good afterwards.
To me, that’s about as complicated as food needs to be.
